Edee Kubrock Torossian grew up with a love of the outdoors, particularly the woods. When her older siblings left for school, Edee went to the woods behind the family farm. Often running barefoot, she spent many happy hours climbing trees, and playing in the small creek nearby.
Recollecting those early years on a Pennsylvania farm, Edee said, “Mother didn't worry about my going to the woods. She knew I'd come home at lunch time.”
“As a young girl, Grandmother lived with us, and she taught me how to read,” Edee continued. “I especially noticed the beautiful pictures in a set of Bible Story books.” At age nine, she recalled, “I created a picture of Abraham looking up at the stars and remembering God's promise.”
When Edee was 16 she entered an art contest given by a distance-learning art school. Recognizing Edee's artistic talent, her parents enrolled her in the course, her first formal art instruction.
At college, Edee excelled in art and creative writing. Subsequently, a college art instructor became her watercolor tutor for 12 years. She said, “I was fascinated by the endless results of water, paper, and paint in using watercolors. There was a freedom and transparency where even 'mistakes' could become magical in a finished painting.”
For 37 years Edee has painted with watercolors. As a wife, mother, and now grandmother, Edee still finds time to paint. “Painting gives me a creative opportunity to express myself,” she says. Friends and family suggested Edee make cards from some of her paintings. “Creations by Edee” is the result of her wish to bring joy to even more people.
